3H neuroscientists making connections!
Last week, 3H students were introduced to neurons.  They learned that they are cells that carry messages in the brain.  Students also learned that the way to make new "thinking paths" or neural pathways in their brains, is to learn something new or persist with a challenge.  They also learned to deepen understanding and work toward automaticity, they have to practice something to strengthen the pathway.
We demonstrated this process this with a yarn model.  Grace was making connections to many activities with a ball of yarn. We later observed which activities had the thicker yarn pathways. These are the ones she had more experience with and understood better.  We then identified areas where we would like to make stronger neural pathways.

We watched the following video as it was a good metaphor for what building neural pathways is all about!
